1st Kirkbymoorside Scouts making a positive change in the community.

Being a Scout is a very responsible role to hold. We as a community agree to follow the Scout law and uphold Scout values. Every Scout should be friendly and considerate. They should strive to be a role model for others, be respectful and help the most vulnerable people in their community.

We have decided to work closely with our local Dementia Care Home. This is to give our Scouts valuable life experience and make them more mindful and empathetic. We believe that young people who care and respect the elderly become more rounded adults in their future life.

You could ask how a Scout can help people who suffer from Dementia, it is proven that basic social interaction helps with Brain health, focus, and a feeling of social inclusion. The Brain is a muscle and as with all muscles it needs to be exercised, engaging with people helps maintain memory and emotions, this also provides an anchor point to aid with focus especially in periods when a sufferer can feel lost in time. Statistically our elderly community suffer the most from feelings of being alone, this drastically increases in Dementia sufferers and so being included in the community helps combat these feelings and provides joy and respite to those who need it the most.

Our next visit to Omega Oak Barn is on Saturday the 2nd of March 2024 13:00-15:00
